Arecibo Observatory National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center – Arecibo

Arecibo Observatory National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center – Arecibo

Simply put, the Arecibo Observatory / National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center is ASTONISHING! It leaves you at a loss for words. Check out our map link and choose satellite view, and realize how easy it is to see in that image! This thing is beyond HUGE! The drive there is also a beautiful drive through the mountains. So even if the Observatory does not appeal to everyone the drive there should be enough to please all.

Please look at our images for hours of operation. Times that it is open to the public are based on seasons.

When you arrive you will pass through a main gate and proceed to the first parking lot. If anyone in your group has issues walking up steep inclines just speak to one of the employees and they will direct you up the road to the second parking lot. If you park in the first lot you better grab everything you need “money camera etc etc”. Trust us, you do not want to walk back down to retrieve any of those items once you reach the peak. As you proceed up the path the sheer magnitude of this telescope will hit you! Get to the ticket office and pay, then find your way to the viewing deck. It is honestly one of those things you will never forget. Personally after about 5-10 minutes I am ready to go, but it is worth every bit of the drive there.

On a side note, the Observatory has been featured as an on site location for quite a few movies. Thus, there is a good chance that you have seen this before.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!
