Pastelillos Empanadillas Stand – Isabela

Pastelillos Empanadillas Stand – Isabela

This particular Pastelillos Empanadillas Stand is the most popular one we have seen.  They sell hundreds or maybe thousands a day, which is great for you, because your odds of getting a fresh one are much better than at other stands.

If you select the middle image, you will be able to see the menu, which shows you their large selection of pastelillos.  They also have Surullitos which are my favorite.  Surullitos are a fried corn meal stick (also pictured), that is filled with cheese.

Now the bad news, if you are trying to eat healthy then don’t bother stopping. Also, be careful parking there and crossing the street. It is a busy place, a busy road, and there is a blind turn right next to it.

Paco’s Tacos – Isabela

Paco’s Tacos – Isabela

Pacos Tacos / Paco’s Churrasqueria Mejicana Mexican Restaurant is GREAT! Finding Mexican food in Puerto Rico can be hard, so when we found Paco’s Tacos it was a ground breaking find.

The food was great, and the staff was friendly. Every single item we had, and saw on other tables, looked tremendous. As for me, one burrito was enough to leave me feeling extremely full, but I wanted another simply because it had taken months to find a Mexican Restaurant of this quality.

On a final note that some people may care less about, there are very few places that televise NFL and NBA games, but Paco’s had the NBA playoffs on a nice big screen. That was a plus in my book. A+.

El Anzuelo Grill Cantina – Isabela

El Anzuelo Grill Cantina – Isabela

* Mapped GPS Coordinates: 18.508193, -67.022060 *

El Anzuelo Grill Cantina is down at the beach in Isabela. There are actually quite a few places to eat down there and also a few bars. You are also very close to the Blow Hole in Isabela. The menu is very reasonable and the food is extremely good. A grilled chicken sandwich with sides was around $6-$7 and the wrap was around $8-$9. The food took awhile to get out, but it was worth the wait.

If you look into the open square where all the food places are located from the road, El Anzuelo will be towards the back left. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Enjoy your time down in this area. If you have not been down along this road just make sure you do not miss it. The map has the route to Blow Hole sketched out and El Anzuelo is on that route.

Best Unnamed Bakery – Aguadilla

If you have never visited Puerto Rico then this post may seem like a lack of effort on our part, but it isn’t.  Unfortunately, marketing is not always their strong suit here, but making GREAT sweets and sandwiches is.

When I am staying in Aguadilla I visit this bakery almost everyday.  About a week ago I was there on a Sunday morning around 9am and lucked into the freshest donut of my entire life.  I literally watched the guy putting on the glaze, then turn around and hand it to me.  It was the most delicious thing I have ever ate.  It was super hot, crispy and sweet as ever.  They also make great sandwiches that they press to toast it.

On most days they have someone there that can speak English, but regardless, they are extremely friendly and its easy to explain what you want.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BAKERY.  View the map and pictures to find it.

Les Delices Deli in Aguada Puerto Rico image 1

Les Delices Deli – Aguada

*Unfortunate Notice – Les Delices Deli has closed.

After a day of surfing in Rincon we were in need of something good, and not fried to eat. If you have been to Puerto Rico then you know a lot of the options are fried, okay most of the options are fried. Well we lucked out when we ran into Les Delices Deli on the south side of Aguada Puerto Rico. It is located next to Bar Code, which is a very popular bar in the area.

Les Delices Deli’s menu was amazing. They had plenty of good and healthy options. The owners told me they opened in November 2010 and had been very busy during the surf season. We all went with the Cubano or Cuban Sandwich, it was the first Cubano we had in Puerto Rico that actually had pickles on it. That little extra touch had me sold immediately.

Everything was fresh and cooked to order. The fries, okay maybe I wasn’t trying to be too healthy, came out so hot I had to wait a few minutes for them to cool off.

We found the owners to be extremely very welcoming and helpful in getting us inside prior to a major rain storm. The owners were also bilingual.

We HIGHLY recommend you give Les Delices Deli a try!
