Wilderness is one of the most popular surf spots in Aguadilla.  If there is a strong wind out of the East most spots along the North Coast are blown out, but Wilderness is around the bend enough to be protected from that wind.  It can hold anything from a small swell through a monster winter swell.
 
On small days you can paddle out from many points, but you still want to paddle in at the little river mouth on the far end of the parking lot.  When the swell is big, you ideally want to paddle out and in at that river mouth (We have that river mouth point marked on our map).  On those big days it takes some focus and effort to make it back to that river mouth, but you really want to do your best or accept the fact that you will probably cut your feet on the reef and get urchins.
 
We also have the route to Wilderness mapped out for you.  You will take a road that cuts through the golf course, across from the Aguadilla Airport, and down towards the beach.  It will transfer from asphalt to dirt and lead down to the parking lot. Recently that dirt portion of the road has got very rough, but a small car should still make it with ease.

Middles is probably most famous for hosting some big surfing competitions including the 2010 Rip Curl Pro where Kelly Slater sealed the deal on his 10th ASP World Championship. Middles may not be the most consistent spot and has a tendency to get sloppy if wind gets on it, but when it’s firing, ITS FIRING. You stand a good chance of seeing Pro Surfers at Middles if the surf is good.
 
The only precaution you should take is not to leave valuables in your car. We often hear stories of cars being broke into.
 
We have the location mapped at the link below. When driving down the road you will see a parking lot on the south side of the road. You can park there or on the north side of the road, but the north side may require 4WD depending on the conditions. We usually pull off the north side of the road, but stay on the asphalt.

Dome’s is without a doubt one of the more interesting spots. I have seen days where the entire North West side of Puerto Rico was chopped up or completely blown out, except for Domes. Actually the picture with the Toyota Yaris in it was taken on a day where Maria’s was chopped up so bad it wasn’t ridable. As you can see Dome’s was fairly glassy.
 
What makes it even better is that not many people check it, so I have rode it on days like that picture with only two other people out. You will find most people check Maria’s first and if it sucks they head out. Maybe I shouldn’t be giving up one of my secret treasures, but what the heck.
 
Now, there is one issue with Domes…. The paddle out. There are three spots people paddle out at. You can jump in right off the beach in front of the parking area, but some days see current coming through so quick it turns that paddle out into an iron man competition. The best spot is right next to the furthest jetty, but it also has extra rocks hiding underwater with no boils to give there location, so watch your fins. The other spot is the south side of the next small jetty down. This spot is super shallow. If you have reef booties take this spot for sure. If you do not have booties, watch out for the urchins!
 
Have fun and hopefully you catch it glassy on a day that everyone else sits inside pissed that Maria’s is blown out. There is a certain level of satisfaction in realizing that you only went a half mile down the road and surfed glassy conditions.

We need to offer Full disclosure on Maria’s, “I will be biased in my review.”
 
I love surfing Maria’s. I have been there on some amazing days and it’s hard not to be biased. The water is so clear that you can sit out there in the lineup and see your shadow on the reef below.
 
The wave there can get really good and line up for some long rides. Really big days help to make that wave stand up quite a bit. I have had my fair share of late take-offs that are straight down the face shifting my weight back as hard as I can while praying I can keep the nose up. I have seen some wild wipe outs there and also a fight in the line up.
 
Overall, Maria’s is not going to be as consistent as the northwest coast of Aguadilla, but when it’s good, ITS GREAT! Unfortunately I do not have pictures from any of the big days. I will keep the camera on me from now on.

Finding Wishing Well without a GPS can be quite time consuming. If you are up for the challenge at least do your best to remember points on the map before heading out. However, we highly recommend a GPS for this spot
 
Wishing Well is best known as a surf spot, but it is much less consistent than the surrounding waves of Aguadilla. However, there are very few places in Puerto Rico, or for that matter the world, as scenic as this. If you are in the Aguadilla area, grab your GPS and stop by Wishing Well.
 
Our only warning is that the small public parking lot at the end of the road just in front of Wishing Well is littered with the glass of many broken car windows so do not leave valuables in your car. The beach front is only steps from the parking lot, so as long as you are not going out snorkeling or surfing you should be fine. Better yet, there is a house right there at the end of the road that will let you park in the yard for a small fee. That house is pictured with the rooster on the roof top. We have parked in the public lot on many occasions and never had an issue, but it never hurts to play it safe.
